Iran Suspends Cooperation with IAEA After Decree Signed

2 JUL 2025 10:39
Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has signed a decree to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reports the Tasnim agency. According to official Tehran, the reason for this decision is the IAEA's "politicized stance" and "unprofessional conduct."
In 1970, Tehran ratified the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and in 1974, it signed a comprehensive safeguards agreement with the IAEA.
In 2003, the IAEA discovered traces of uranium enrichment in Iran, and Tehran admitted to carrying out undeclared activities. At that time, an additional protocol was signed, and Iran, at the IAEA's suggestion, announced the suspension of its uranium enrichment program. However, it was restarted in 2005.
In recent years, some major international actors have periodically stated that Iran is approaching the level of creating a nuclear weapon in its uranium enrichment process, which became a pretext for the 12-day Israel-Iran clashes with US participation.
